Environmental Area

We have been making information books about our environmental area because the Barkingside park keeper wants to know all about it! First of all we went to do some reseach to see what we could find out. Then we decided on the contents of our books before writing them. We had to make sure the books were factual, interesting and attractive. Here are some photos of our research visit. (We looked very hard to find some baby rabbits........................but didn't manage it!)

Investigating Forces

We have been investigating push and pull forces in science. We explored forces by finding out how toys move. Can you see what forces we used in these photos?

Sock Puppets

We have used the story "Kipper's Toy Box" by Mick Inkpen to inspire lots of work in 1G. In the story there is a character called Sock Thing. We decided to make our own sock puppets out of a selection of materials. We all thought carefully about our designs and how we could achieve them. Now all we need to do is name them! If you come along to our class assembly on Thursday 5th March you will get the chance to see some of our fantastic puppets.

Book Week 2009

We had lots of fun during Book week! We paired up with 4D to do some shared reading. It was really successful and everyone enjoyed it. Have a look:

We got together as a year group and had a Book Character Parade. It was great to see everyone's costumes - what fantastic imaginations we have in year1!

We can't wait until next year's Book Week. Now, will I be a princess or a superhero....................?

Bethnal Green Museum of Childhood trip

Last week we set off for a day investigating old toys at Bethnal Green Museum of Childhood. We travelled by coach and spent time exploring all the different exhibits. Our favourite parts were going in the sandpit, making magnetic faces, riding the rocking horse and playing board games! We learnt about lots of things and had a fun day!

Road Safety Theatre

Last week we watched a performance about road safety. The theatre group was made up of 2 actors who were really funny! They asked some of us to join in and help them with the rules to keep safe on the road. (Even some of the teachers were dragged up to perform a dance!) We learnt about the safest places to cross a road and that you must always walk. We also learnt the Green Cross Code and how to be a Roadwise Ranger!

Brown Bear Podcast

We have been studying poetry in class and read the poem "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" by Bill Martin. We made puppets to help us remember the order of the animals. Listen to our performance here!
