Our trip to the Tate Gallery.

Year 5 went on a trip yesterday to the Tate Modern and Globe theatre.

The topic for the whole school, this summer, is 'What lies Beneath'. We have been discussing the 150th anniversary of the London underground system so it was good to travel by underground to St. Pauls.

Then we went across the Millennium Bridge and visited the Tate Modern.

The children sketched sculptures there. After lunch we walked along the Thames and sat down to sketch the Globe theatre. The weather was fabulous and the South Bank was crowded. Some passers by commented on the childrens drawings - how good they were!

The start of summer term in Class 5R

We have been investigating the length of shadows, as part of our Earth, Sun and Moon topic.

We now understand that it is us moving and not the sun!

We also made Musical Instruments as part of our Sound Topic. Thank you to everyone who sent in shoe boxes!

Art Week - William Morris Designs

Year 5 have been working with an artist this week. They have been looking at William Morris designs and using our environmental area to draw designs for teo large wall hangings. Some children are using the designs to make fabric leaves and flowers which will be attached to the hangings.

Please take a look at us during book week:

Book Week

Monday 28th January was the start of book week. We had a 'Book Character Day', when we had to dress up as our favourite book character. In class we have been enjoying the book 'Wolves' by Emily Gravett so we came to school dressed as wolves and rabbits.

Also we shared some of our favourite books with children in Class 2R. They really enjoyed listening to our stories.

Christmas Carols

In year 5 this Christmas we have been singing Christmas Carols. We sang them at the School Christmas Fayre, where all the parents came along to see us. We had a great afternoon and there were also lots of goodies to buy at the Fayre.
We also sang our carols to the public that visited the Redhouse Public House and Restaurant. We had lunch there and everybody enjoyed our singing!

Science - Plants

Welcome to our blog about plants.
This week Class 3SH  have been learning about plants. Did you know that the roots sucks the water into the plant and a  fantastic colourful fruit is made? It is important to water the plants every day and if you don’t water them they will eventually die so it is very impostant that you do so.
The different parts of the plants are roots, leaves, petals, and the bud.
Also as well as water the plant needs lots of sunlight which is where it gets its oxygen from in order to survive so the more sunlight the better it is for the plant.
We hope you enjoyed our blog - thank you for reading it!

'The Egyptians'

Welcome to class 3SH blog
Our topic this term is all about Egyptians. Did you know Egyptians believed that if the pharaoh's body could be mummified after death the pharaoh would live forever?.  The tombs were designed to protect the buried Pharaoh's body and his belongings. The dry desert heat worked to keep the Pharaohs's body and his belongings from decomposing and rotting away.
The Egyptians were responsible for building the pyramids. The reason they built the pyramids next to the River Nile  was so it would be easier to get the blocks to the pyramid. The stones could be bought nearer to the pyramid building site by boat.

Thank you for looking at our blog.
